I’m often asked; “when should I book travel for the school holidays?”
As a general guide, I’d recommend at least 6 to 8 months in advance for any school holidays travel, especially to the Islands, Hawaii, or Bali.
Airlines and accommodation providers very rarely have “deals”
Availability is good that far in advance
You’ll get more choice
The prices are better then, rather than 3 or less months out
Australia remains the top destination for Kiwi’s.
The Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and the Tropical North are popular for large family gatherings and beach breaks.
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are most popular for city breaks.
Bali is becoming very popular. Air New Zealand is increasing capacity in 2020 by 30,000 extra seats, so keep an eye on my page for some great prices from them and Emirates.
Where to stay in Bali?
Seminyak, Legian, Sanur, Ubud and Nusa Dua are continously popular with families, and couples.
Why not venture further to the beautiful Gili Islands or Lombok?
Hawaii is always popular with US mainland and Japanese tourists, so prices are fairly high year round. But book ahead and you can get good prices for accommodation.
Both Air New Zealand and Hawaiian Airlines provide a lot of choice of flights, and prices are reasonable most of the year.
Why not try Samoa or Vanuatu, especially if you’ve been to Fiji and Rarotonga before?
Niue is an untouched paradise, not necessarily known for beaches as they are scarce, but there are plenty of places for fantastic snorkeling and diving.
New Caledonia has a great deal to offer, stunning beaches, beautiful Isles and lots of adventure sports.
